Camilo Salazar talks about VIPER on BioBioChile

· By BioBioChile

On Expreso BioBio, the program on Radio BioBio and BioBio TV hosted by Álvaro Escobar and Loreto Álvarez, Camilo Salazar, co-founder of VIPER, shared how this Chilean platform has transformed emergency response. From its experience with fire departments and security agencies to its international expansion, VIPER offers technology solutions for real-time notification and coordination.

A system designed for Latin America

Camilo explained that VIPER was born after seeing how advanced mass notification systems work in the United States, systems that many institutions in our region cannot afford. That led to the idea of developing an “affordable but robust” solution covering most of the emergency needs of companies, municipalities and fire departments in Latin America.

Coordinating emergency response

Among its most outstanding features, VIPER:

  • Geolocates the emergency in real time: it pinpoints exactly where the incident is happening, even if the person affected is unsure of their location.
  • Assigns resources automatically: it tells the dispatch center which units (such as fire engines or ambulances) are closest and available.
  • Notifies leaders and key personnel: through different channels (calls, SMS, WhatsApp, email), VIPER activates response and coordination protocols, providing maps, meeting points and specific instructions.
  • Generates online statistics: it tracks how many emergencies have been handled, how long it takes to reach the scene and where incidents occur most, which helps plan and optimize resources.

International presence and the future

In addition to its solid work in Chile, with 104 fire department dispatch centers using its system, VIPER was chosen by the government of Ecuador to lead the national tsunami evacuation drill, demonstrating its ability to adapt to different emergency contexts. This experience has opened doors in other countries, such as Brazil and the United States, which have shown interest in automated notification and dispatch solutions.

Looking toward new frontiers

Camilo announced upcoming presentations at international trade shows, such as the firefighting show in Indianapolis (USA), and outreach to rescue services in Brazil. With a focus on innovation and flexibility, VIPER keeps growing and showing that Chilean talent can compete at the highest level of the safety and emergency management industry.
